Found photographs at flea markets have their own special mystery and poignancy; finding such fragments of a life on the sidewalk even more so.

New York Times journalist Deborah Acosta was walking down a Manhattan street recently when she came across a Kodachrome slide on the sidewalk. Then another. And another. Like a trail of breadcrumbs, leading to a trash bag full of them.
