Importing Apple Photos Albums or Specific Images

While Mylio’s automatic Apple Photos import will import your full Photos library, users may want to import a selection of photos or albums from Photos. Additionally, users may want to export images using this method if they wish to keep all of their Photos edits. Note: exporting from Photos will create new images with the edits “baked in”. The edits will not be revertible in Mylio.

This guide will walk you through exporting all images from Photos or specific albums from Photos.

Importing all images from Apple Photos

The first step of moving from Photos to Mylio is to copy your files out of Photos. Note that you are copying photos, so you must have room of your machine for these photos.

  1. Open Photos on your Mac.
  2. Select ‘Photos’ in the top navigation bar of Photos.Support_Photos_Photoview
  3. Navigate to moments view. In this view, you should be able to select an individual photo by clicking on it one time and the photo should outline it blue. If you see only one photo, you are in too far, if you see many photos but cannot select them, you are out too far.
  4. Navigate to Edit > Select All to select all images in your Photos Library.
  5. With all images outlined in blue, navigate to File > Export.

You will be given two options…

Exporting all Photos
Exporting all photos allows you to export your photos and it will include your edits directly in the photo. You will not be able to remove your edits.

When exporting all photos if you are unsure of settings, these offer high quality versions of your photos.

  • Photo Kind: JPEG
  • JPEG Quality: Maximum
  • Color Profile: Original
  • Size: Full Size
  • Include: Both
  • File Name: Use File Name
  • Subfolder Format: Moment Name

Exporting Unmodified Originals
Exporting unmodified originals exports all of your photos without any edits that you have made applied to them.

When exporting unmodified originals, use these settings:

  • Export Original: Export IPTC as XMP
  • File Naming: Use File Name
  • Subfolder Format: Moment Name
  1. Once completed, select ‘Export’. You will be asked where you would like to save your photos.
  1. Locate the Mylio Library (by default in your home folder) and select to export your photos into the Mylio Pictures folder.
  1. Open Mylio, the photos will be imported automatically.
