Cross-platform app for organizing and protecting photos now displays digital memories the way we lived them: as events on the calendar of our lives
BELLEVUE, WA. – August 3 Mylio, the photo organizing app that Outdoor Photographer said “may change your life,” now offers the first-ever Life Calendar, a way of visually mapping your memories in a simple, intuitive way. “From the beginning, our mission has been to change the way the world remembers,” says Mylio founder David Vaskevitch, “and this is a quantum leap in that direction. The simple power of seeing the tapestry of a life laid out like this is hard to overstate. It brings people up short.”
The Life Calendar feature expands on Mylio’s existing calendar view, which automatically slots photos on the days on which they happened. Now, you can group these memories in custom time windows (from brief – like a romantic evening – to long, like college years), then label, and color-code them. The result: an at-a-glance life mosaic, viewable by day, week, month, year, decade, or beyond. You can even enter future events before they happen, and they’ll be populated with your images when they arrive.
Choice, Control, and…Time Travel?
Most of our memories are related to different areas of our life like Family, Travel, and Work. The Life Calendar gives you the option to group the events you add into categories like these, and prioritize the events you care about most. This flexibility allows for fun, too: we’ve seen people populate calendars with things like Dr. Who incarnations, or James Bond movies over the decades.
There are three benefits to people who set up their Life Calendar:
- Speed. The thing that most consistently raises eyebrows about the calendar in Mylio is what we call the party test: a memory – decades old, say — comes up in conversation; you pull out your smart phone, and within seconds you’re showing and telling.
- Power. Scrolling through a Life Calendar – especially with people who are part of it – has a heart impact that’s hard to describe, and best experienced. Zoom in, zoom out; suddenly, you’re a time traveler.
- Integration. We’re no psychologists, but seeing a life story in its full span, chapter by chapter – potentially over generations – has its own special benefits. Not least among them: the ability to easily share your true stories with loved ones.
